Refocus
November acts as a mirror to the battle we are fighting inside ourself. Let’s realign, regain inner strength, and refocus. Today we’ll refocus!
What is the meaning of focus in life? It’s a confidence that’s based on experential knowledge and inner peace. It’s having a direction and knowing where you’re going, which is so valuable in November when we’re so busy getting ready for the holidays. We may even find ourselves abandoning our initial goals and intentions for the year. (Remember those from January?)
Focusing is a skill, which means we can practice at staying on course. It is the gateway to all of our thinking: to learning, to reasoning, to problem-solving, to decision-making. When people can’t focus, I like to ask, “What’s blocking you?”
The answer is usually a trigger.
Practicing our skill of self-discipline means mastering our inernal and external triggersl
What’s the message you are telling yourself that stops you from feeling that you’re making the grade?
There are also external triggers, like being distracted on a phone call about something you just realized needs to be done elsewhere. I’m sure you know the feeling.
Identify triggers so that you can realign.
Try this journal prompt: “I give myself permission to…” You might be surprised what comes up when you think about what you’re NOT allowing yourself to do!
Starve the distractions by giving yourself permission to acknowledge what you’re not allowing yourself to do…. and feed the focus.
